What To do If You're Involved In A Car Crash (Simple Steps)

Let’s face it, there’s hardly any type of defensive driving school that will adequately prepare you for the Nigerian motor ways. Let’s not even get started on the fender benders, scratches and near misses you will have. It’s inevitable. There are usually several routes to take if you find yourself in any of these situations. You could either get out of your car and begin the screaming match with your perpetrator, or you could sit in your car and panic. But if you’re totally confused by what to do, these simple steps might help.

Step 1. Be calm and cool.

Step 2. Contact your relationship officer from your car insurance company. If the relationship officer can’t get to you on time, get any insurance certificate (photocopy) of the other party.

Step 3. A claim form will be provided immediately for you to fill either via mail or hard copy.

Step 4. Take pictures of the damaged part and front part of the vehicle, showing the license plate number.

Step 5.  In case of theft or serious accident, get a police report from the nearest police station.

Step 6. Go to a registered workshop, get an estimate of repairs and send all documents to the insurance company.

Following these steps will ensue your vehicle is back to you in no time. This is the main reason why its important to have insurance coverage on your vehicle irrespective of the mandatory law that guides it.

Have you ever crashed your car too? What steps did you take?
