I applaud Nigerians ingenuity in the renaming of cars. They are peculiar and easily find names that suit things. This our legendary ingenuity in more pronounced in the automobile industry where practically all cars have a local name given to it.
In overseas, cars are identified by their model and brand names, but it is quite a different case here in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, most cars are known by their localized name and very few identify these cars by their real brand and model name.
Cars are amazing technological feats that litter our roads round the world today. Every passing year witnesses the debut of a new model or some incredible modification on an existing model. But I’m not here to examine car models or talk about which is the newest innovation.
It’s amazing how some cars that have become popular end up getting nicknames which are usually as a result of situations surrounding them or their looks.
I took some time to gather as much as I could on the famous car models that were notorious for one thing or the other way back then and presently today.
Below are some popular cars on Naija roads and what Naija people call them...
1998 Honda Accord - Baby Boy
1992 Honda Accord - Honda Hala
1995 Honda Accord - Bulldog
1984 E Class - V Boot
2015 Lexus LX570 - End Of Ocholi
2012 Honda Accord- Evil Spirit or Anaconda
1990 Mercedes S Class - Beast
2004 Toyota Camry - Big For Nothing
2007 Toyota Camry - Musle or Voltron
2003 Honda Accord - End Of Discussion
2007 Honda Accord - Discussion Continued or Honda Bentley
These names have actually come to stay and some people don't even know theses cars real names, I'm still waiting for the names Naija people will give the newer Supercars we see on Naija roads nowadays, the likes or the Rolls Royce, Ferraris, Bentleys, Lamborghinis etc as theyre just called by their original names.
Abeg if you know another car and its nickname wey I no mention here, please be free to mention, I'm Ladi Bentley..............
