Head2Head...... Battle Of The V12s, Mercedes Benz s600 vs BMW 760Li

Hi people, im Ladi Bentley as you all know.... anyway, to cut a long story short, I was born many years ago with a terrible disease that is now costing me money and time, and that disease is called "Car Nut" lol, and I think its the best disease any guy can have.

During my growing up years, ive been given many nicknames and all are car names (my friends in Amuwo Odofin can attest to that), H2, Dipo Seven Series, Ladi s500, 745, Dipo 760, V-Boot and Ladi Bentley, and the Ladi Bentley name stuck since 2008. I mentioned Ladi s500 and Dipo 760 abi? we will be comparing both cars today but not the s500, but the almighty s600........ lol so fasten your seatbelts.

Mercedes Benz s600 and BMW 760Li

Since when I don dey small, theses two cars have been rivals, I remember ive always rushed home to watch a car show called AutoMotor and Sports on NTA2, all they do on the show is compare cars and theres no day they compare a Benz to a BMW, the Benz always wins, although some people like my friend @mo_saidi10 on Instagram always says a Benz cant beat a BMW, anyway lets see.....

Mercedes Benz s600
Above is the Mercedes-Benz S600. Crowning the w222 range (non-AMG of course), this beast is powered by a V12 biturbo engine with 530 hp and 830 Nm of torque, the latter available from just 1,900 rpm. The new S600 has a bigger engine (5,980 vs 5,513 cc) than its predecessor, but the Euro 6 mill is 21% more economical.

The new engine features an all-aluminium crankcase, one-piece chain drive, forged crankshaft in high-grade quenched and tempered steel, modified forged pistons, new ECU, new dedicated ignition coil with twin-spark ignition, cam follower, two intake and one outlet valves (three-valve technology), hollow-stem outlet valves (filled with sodium) and low-temperature cooling-water circulation with separate expansion reservoir.

The comprehensive standard spec of the S600 reinforces its role as a flagship. LED Intelligent Light System, Magic Body Control Suspension with Road Surface Scan and the Driving Assistance package Plus, all come as standard. The latter comprises Active Lane Keeper Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, BAS Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Distronic Plus with Steer Control and Stop&Go Pilot, Pre-Safe Brake and Pre-Safe Plus.

“The S-Class has always been the embodiment of Mercedes  Benz' claim to deliver the very best in terms of both technology and design. And the flagship model, the S600, epitomises the focus of Mercedes Benz' development work, the ‘Essence of Luxury’.

BMW 760Li

This is the 760LI and it hails as the flagship sedan of the BMW lineup. For the latest model year the 760 full-size sedan has been given a total overhaul, which includes fresh styling, a new powertrain lineup, a one-size-fits-all wheelbase philosophy and a high-tech interior, making for a horsepower race that we haven't seen the likes of since the 1960s.

Its super engine, the 6.0-liter DOHC 48-valve all-aluminum V-12, is a billboard of BMW engine technology. There's the Double VANOS system that uses phasers on both the intake and exhaust cams to infinitely vary cam timing. The intake manifold and the valve covers are made from lightweight magnesium rather than aluminum or steel. There's also Valvetronic, a separate but ingenious system that adjusts intake-valve lift, thereby obviating the usual throttle plate and reducing pumping losses. Im not a BMW fan so I no go write plenty epistle.

s600 Steering

The interior of the S600 is everything you'd expect from aGerman luxury sedan, with soft and supple Designer leather, beautifully made wood veneers, and some rear-seat options that will have you never wanting to drive, such as the "executive rear-seat package," which loses the middle seat, but replaces it with a center console that houses fold-out airline-style business trays, heated and cooled cup-holders, and an optional refrigerated beverage compartment.

The 760Li interior has good styling, good ergonomics, and is very comfortable, thanks to the fully powered seats in the back and a reclining massage feature. You can also opt for the rear-seat entertainment system, which consists of two flat-screens on the seat-backs and a second iDrive controller, which allows you to access navigation, Bluetooth, and AV and DVD inputs.

760Li Steering

760Li Backseat, not as impressive as the s600

The 760's powerful twin-turbo V12 that produces 535 hp and 550 lb-feet of torque. That engine is the top-of-the-line in the 7 series and aids the car do 60 in 4.5 seconds.

The s600 is powered by a V12 biturbo engine with 530 hp and 830 Nm of torque, the latter available from just 1,900 rpm.

the s600's V12 engine

Now this is where the real battle lies, as we all know, both of them have twin-turbocharged V12 engines with more than 500 horsepower and both have six liters of displacement, but that is where the actual similarities between them end.

The  S 600 has 530 hp and 830 Nm (612 lb ft) of torque, while the 760Li has 544 hp and 750 Nm (553 lb ft) of torque. For statisticians, the Mercedes-Benz is down 2.5 percent in horsepower but has 10 percent more torque than the BMW, as it usually happens between the two in other engines as well.

The 544 hp of the BMW are available in full from 5250 rpm to 6000 rpm, while the 530 hp of the Mercedes-Benz are available from 4900 rpm to 5300 rpm.

In terms of smoothness, the 830 Nm (612 lb ft) of torque from the S 600 V222 are available from 1900 rpm all the way to 4000 rpm, while the 750 Nm (553 lb ft) of torque from the 760Li can be depended upon from 1500 rpm until 5000 rpm.

The above figure translate into an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds no matter if you're driving the S-Class or the 7-Series, overall making for some pretty neck and neck performance comparisons.

Considering this is a tug of war between the two, we have to find a clear winner in at least one department though. Judging by the fuel consumption, we have to choose the S 600 as a clear winner, since its combined fuel economy is 11.3 liters per 100 km (21 mpg) and emits 264 g of CO2 per 100 km, while the 760Li has a combined fuel economy of 12.9 liters per 100 km (18.2 mpg) and emits 303 g of CO2 per 100 km.

The S-Class is also Euro VI, while the 7-Series is currently Euro V.

Another area where the Mercedes-Benz S 600 is also a clear winner is the overall weight, since it starts at 2185 kg (4817 pounds), while the 760Li's engine has to carry no less than 2270 kg (5004 pounds).

Without counting the standard inclusion of 19 inch wheels on the Mercedes-Benz over the standard 18 inch on the BMW, the three-pointed star clearly wins in two categories.

Anyway, after all your own reading and comparison, do you think im right by saying the s600 wins?

feel free to comment below, im Ladi Bentley, Goodnight.

  1. Both cars are awesome and make me weak at the knees but in the end I have to agree with you and fall all the way to the left!

  2. Both cars are awesome though but apart from fuel consumption, overall weight, and the engine specs, the SpecialeE still take up in terms of body styling and the interior(the main features to a lame man),that bespoke interior just can't be waved aside. Nice one bro keep it up. I am @benzlover.ng
